USA Tennis Summer Programs-Now Registering!

Summer has arrived and with it comes GEPTA’s three biggest youth programs.  The USA Team Tennis for youth program is being headed up by Steve Olivas this year and it offers kids ages 10-18 the opportunity to participate and play tennis in a team format against other teams.  The program is divided into two different divisions; the White Division which include kids ages 14 and under and a Blue Division which is kids 15-18.  Each division is also broken down into two subdivisions:  Stars, that include beginners to intermediate level players, and Stripes, that are advanced intermediate through tournament level players.  His  program has had tremendous success in the past and with Steve at the helm, this year will be yet another success

  • For more information on participating in the USA Team Tennis program contact USA Team Tennis League Coordinator Steve Olivas at 799-9096.

Another program being offered throughout the city is USA Tennis NJTL.  This program offers low cost introductory group tennis lessons along with weekly challenge matches at other participating facilities.  However, this program is a lot more than just tennis.  USA Tennis NJTL is a community-driven program that keeps youngsters off the streets and out of trouble by providing them with  a safe haven, adult role models and an opportunity to develop positive social skills and learning disciplines. Many USA Tennis NJTL participants have gone on to become doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, accountants, tennis teaching professionals,  coaches, and business executives. A few have even become professional tennis players (James Blake is a USA Tennis NJTL Graduate).  All kids that participate are then eligible to participate in the USA Tennis NJTL Regional Rally that will be held at the El Paso Youth Tennis Center on July 15th.  At the USA Tennis NJTL Regional Rally all kids are given tshirts,  prizes, lunch and a full day of tennis activities.

  • For more information on getting your kids involved in the USA Tennis NJTL program contact Robert Tapia, GEPTA NJTL Coordinator at 820-6227.

GEPTA also sponsors a series of Non-Elimination  tournaments at different locations throughout El Paso during the summer.  These tournaments give beginning players the opportunity to participate in tournament play and continue on despite winning or losing.
